7 SIMPLE STEPS TO MAKE AN EFFECTIVE ACTING RESUME


An acting resume is entirely different from resumes for other purposes. It can be also called as Actors CV (curriculum vitae),Actors Bio data or Acting Profile. There are so many ways and formats to write an acting resume. Here we discuss about one of the simple and effective format of resume for an actor

The two Golden rules:

  1.  Never FAKE your resume- Only add honest information and do not add false information
  2.  Contain your resume in single page- Only add relevant and important information about you and discard minor and unwanted information

The simple Seven Steps to write an acting Resume are: 


Example of an acting resume

  1. Head Shot
  2. Name and contact details
  3. Personal information
  4. Acting Experiences
  5. Education
  6. Training
  7. Other skills
1. Head shot

  • A single photo with your head, shoulders upto mid portion of your arm
  • Recent photograph without much editing and make up
  • Do not attach selfies
  • Attach photos taken by professional photographers or with a good quality still camera (avoid mobile photos)
Common size: 8” x 10” (width x height)
Other size: 10” x 8” (width x height)

Here in this format you can attach a passport size photo. You can also pin head shot photos of larger sizes along with this format omitting the portion given for head shot in our example
Note: In some casting calls they will ask for Resume/Profile/Biodata and Photographs separately. In that case you can avoid the head shot portion and add other informations, and sent resume and photographs separately

2. Name and Contact details

Add your full name, Phone number, E mail ID, Permanent/Temporary address for communication

3. Personal Information

Here you can include your Age range (age criteria in which you are most suitable for), Height, Weight, Skin Tone, Eye Colour and Hair Colour

4.  Acting Experience

Golden rules:


  • Add your project details in which you performed well and in an important role
  • Add recent and major projects first
  • Avoid minor or other projects in which your performance is worse

Give details about your experiences in the field of acting. Can be presented under 4 sections:

Project Name: Name of movie/short film/TV serial/album/web-series/play/drama/pilot film/documentary etc.

Role: Roles you played in that particular project ( hero/heroine/second hero/second heroine/lead/co-lead/co actor/supporting role/guest role/or you can mention the name of your character)

Type of project: Mention the type of project like movie/short film/TV Serial/album/web-series/play/drama/pilot film/documentary etc.


Links to your project: Add website/youtube links of your project. You can also mention in brackets the time you are appearing in that project so that the casting director can easily catch you

5. Education


Add acting related education details first and in which give preference for the highest qualification. You can also add education details not related to acting (eg: B Tech, BSc, MBBS) after the acting related courses and qualifications

6. Training

Mention the details of your training related to acting, like acting workshops, acting classes, seminar or symposiums on acting. Try to mention the name of the faculty who is famous in the acting training field (Eg: Jaiprakash Kuloor (Kuloor Mash), Sajeev Nambiath) under whom  you get training

7. Special skills

Mention the languages you are comfortable with in this section along with your other skills like dancing, singing, skills in martial arts, skills in playing instruments etc
You can also mention the level of expertise in that skills like expert/advanced/intermediate
